Chase has been through a lot in his four years of life.
Reading through his history at ACCT Philly, you begin to unravel the story of a dog who was brought in time and time again by police officers responding to reports of abandoned, emaciated dogs.
Some of the times, he was with a female dog and puppies. Other times, he was alone.
Each time, he would be reclaimed by his owner, who was registered to his microchip. His owner didn’t seem to have stable housing or possibly the ability to care for Chase. Regardless of her intentions, she was not taking care of him, and his health deteriorated more and more each time he came in as a stray, abandoned dog, or through police intervention.
The fifth and final time Chase ended up at ACCT, the shelter told his owner that she could reclaim him, as permitted by law, but they would be issuing a code violation notice and fee for allowing Chase to be “running at large” so many times. The shelter explained that if she allowed them to neuter Chase, they would waive the fee and she could reclaim him. If Chase was going to continue being left abandoned and running freely around the city, neutering him was in his best interest.
While we don’t know exactly how everything transpired, we do know that Chase’s previous owner never came back to reclaim him after that. Finally, he was able to be put up for adoption and find the forever home he deserved.
Chase was emaciated and extremely underweight. He is now on a special re-feeding program to carefully and safely provide the nutrients he desperately needs to return to a healthy weight.
Chase was at ACCT looking for the right forever home, but he faced one final obstacle: he was running out of time before his space would be needed for another dog in need at this city shelter.
That’s when he came to us.
Chase is safe with us now. He will have all the time he needs to gain weight, heal, and find the truly perfect forever home he deserves. Being able to provide dogs like Chase with the time and care they need to have a happy ending is truly an honor.
This $5 Friday, we are asking for your support for Chase’s care. Every donation makes a difference and allows us to continue giving Chase, and other dogs who feel as lost and hopeless as he once did, the opportunity for a happy ending.
$5 may not seem like much, but when everyone who is touched by Chase’s story gives a small donation toward his care, it adds up to create monumental change. These are changes we simply cannot make without the support of people like you.
