Chance was first spotted as a stray in Havertown, PA- limping, scared, and clearly in need of medical care. No one could safely get ahold of her, so the community rallied together to feed and look out for her until Goodboy Dog Recovery could work their magic and bring her to safety and into our care.

Once with us, Chance received all the medical care she needed and we couldn’t believe how incredibly sweet and affectionate she was! Sadly, despite us reporting her exceptional personality to many potential adopters and sharing about it online, she did not get a single application or family interested in meeting her. She went into a loving foster home in the interim.

Chance’s forever family had originally applied to adopt one of our Greater Swiss Mountain Dog mill mamas, Sophia. Sophia and Chance had become best friends in their foster home, with Chance giving this shy girl the confidence she needed to bring to let people approach her. When we invited the family to come meet Sophia, the foster also brought Chance out to help boost Sophia’s confidence.

Chance’s family commented on how lucky the foster was to have such a sweet dog, and that’s when they learned Chance was also available for adoption! They asked to take Chance for a short walk, and by the time they returned, they informed us they had found their match!

They had a young child, who Chance bonded with immediately and really sealed the deal for them. They set aside what they thought they wanted their next dog to look like and chose their new family member based purely on personality- what we hope every one of our dogs gets chosen for!

The week Chance was adopted, our team was navigating a tough stretch with potential adopters overlooking great dogs due to breed stereotypes. Chance’s story of how she was chosen by this family lifted our entire team. We even shared her and her family’s photos in a later educational post on our social media addressing these false stereotypes. Chance is the perfect example of why we fight so strongly against these misconceptions.

Today, Chance spends her days with her best friend and her adoring family. She brought so much joy to our team with her happy, loving personality, and we couldn’t be happier that she found a family who sees just how special she is.
