Leni

Leni (fka Sophia) came to us from a commercial breeding facility in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania — one of the worst mills we work with. The dogs there endure unimaginable neglect and abuse, yet heartbreakingly, it continues to operate legally year after year.

When Leni first arrived, she was extremely shy and shut down. Thankfully, she went straight into a loving foster home — one that already had several adopted mill mamas of their own. These sweet, seasoned dogs helped teach each new arrival how to feel safe, trust again, and find joy.

Leni struggled at first, spending her first few weeks hiding under a desk. Slowly but surely, she began to gain confidence, especially around other dogs. We knew she would need an adoptive family with an abundance of patience and understanding when the time came.

Leni’s forever mom had fostered in the past and worked with many shy, shut-down dogs, so she was more than ready — and genuinely excited — to open her heart to a dog who needed a little extra love. The match with her current dogs was instant, and it was clear Leni had found her new best friends and emotional support crew!

Her forever mom has worked tirelessly to continue the progress her foster home started — helping Leni blossom into the happy, confident dog she was always meant to be.

Please read this wonderful update from her forever family:

“Leni is turning into such a snuggle bug with me, I’m loving it! Still very hesitant with my husband, but she starts training on the 17th! She’ll be doing a 4-week class Monday–Friday where we drop her off and pick her up each day. I’m hoping we can make some progress with her and my husband and just help her build more confidence around men! She’s such a sweet girl.

She’s starting to wag her tail when we come home, but she’s a total puppy when she’s in the backyard! She loves to just lay outside, especially now that it’s cooled off. I’m excited for some snow this winter — I think she’ll love that!”

Big hugs to Leni and Lauryn! Seeing her grow, gain confidence, and finally live the happy, loved life she deserves is everything we hope for in rescue. Thank you to her amazing forever mom for opening her heart and home — Leni’s story is a beautiful reminder that patience, love, and second chances truly change lives.
