ACCTs of Love is a program we started in August 2024 to help dogs at ACCT Philly who are at risk of losing their lives simply because they need medical care.
When a dog is facing a medical crisis and needs care that the other shelter cannot provide, donations to our ACCTs of Love program help give us the ability to step in, provide the medical treatment they need, and give them the happy ending they deserve.
This could be the puppy with parvovirus who just needs a medication we have access to, if we can afford to purchase it. The dog who was hit by a car and just needs surgery and a few weeks to heal. The senior dog who just needs some medical management to live a happy and comfortable life.
We believe this program is one of the things that makes our rescue so special and allows us to take in dogs who, most of the time, have nowhere else to go. We don’t shy away from a dog simply because they have a high medical cost. We advocate for them, find the funding they need to get the help they deserve, and put in the time and effort to help them heal and, eventually, find their forever home.
This program is so successful because we have negotiated access to an incredible, life-saving parvo medication at an extremely discounted rate, have an amazing medical team at Brandywine Valley Veterinary Hospital who goes above and beyond for every dog, and a team on-site at our rescue with extensive medical experience who can treat many medical issues in-house.
Koda is one of the dogs we saved this week 💛
We were contacted last week about a little puppy named Koda who was surrendered by his family to a kill shelter due to suffering from parvovirus. Unless we could take him right away, he was going to be humanely euthanized to end the suffering that no one else could treat.
Thankfully, we had the medication stocked and ready to go. He came straight to us, received the medication he desperately needed, and began turning around from a lifeless body to a happy puppy within just 24 hours! Today, Koda is doing phenomenal and will soon be ready to find his forever home 💛
As much as we want to save them all, it is extremely important that we understand our limitations, especially our financial limitations, and do not put the dogs already in our care at risk by trying to take on more dogs than we can responsibly handle.
The problem isn’t manpower. We have SO many amazing people who are willing to help. The problem is having enough funding to provide the medical care one dog may need while continuing to properly care for all of the other dogs who are counting on us.
We are incredibly proud of the work we’ve done to make this program as cost-effective as possible. We stretch every dollar, utilize discounted medications and veterinary care whenever possible, and do everything we can to make these lifesaving opportunities possible.
But at the end of the day, ACCTs of Love only exists because of the people who support it financially.
This $5 Friday we are asking for donations to our ACCTs of Love program so that we can help dogs like Koda get back their life and have many more days of wagging tails ahead of them.
$5 may not seem like much, but when enough people come together, those dollars become paid veterinary bills, purchased life-saving medication, medical supplies our dogs need, and us being able to say yes when another life is urgently at risk.
